Get ready: Critical Mass bike ride will cross Venetian Causeway Friday night

It’s been almost a year since Miami Critical Mass staged its monthly bike ride through the Venetian Islands.

Friday evening, it’s back. and Miami Beach police warn of the usual traffic snarls.

The ride starts at 7:15 p.m. at Government Center downtown, through Northeast Miami to the 79th Street Causeway, then across Normandy Isle to Collins Avenue.

The last leg of the ride will take riders west on Dade Boulevard to Venetian Way and through the Venetian Islands — likely some time after 8 p.m.

So plan to avoid the traffic if you can. If you get caught in it, be patient.

(NOTE: This is a corrected version of this post — an earlier version had the route reversed).

  1. Think the bike ride goes the opposite direction as you mentioned.

  2. The email announcement from the MBPD has them going the other way as I read it. Entering MB on 79th St. and going south, leaving the Beach on the Venetian. I assume one of you is right.

  3. I think Good Friday evening of Easter weekend is an inconsiderate time. Why doesn’t Critical Mass choose Saturday mornings when traffic is light? Is there a way to reach them?

Thanks for the alert, but, according to the Police Department, you have the direction of the ride reversed. The riders will be crossing the Venetian Causeway from east to west and it will obviously occur later than 7:20 or 7:25. Please see following:

Hello, do you know how long it will take them to cross?

  6. I live near there, and no matter what they tell you, the time it takes them to cross is at least 45 minutes to an hour or so. it is horrible.
