Hear the Miami Beach candidates at Tuesday forum sponsored by residents groups

For the last two weeks, our mailboxes have been stuffed with campaign mailers, many of them attacking various candidates for Miami Beach mayor and commission.

Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 1, Early voting starts Monday, Oct. 24.

There are four candidates for mayor: the incumbent, Matti Bower, competes against Steve Berke, Dave Crystal and Laura Levey.

In the one contested city commission race, incumbent Deede Weithorn faces Maria Meruelo.

So get ready. Tuesday, you can hear the candidates for yourself at the Colony Theater in a forum sponsored for a consortium of neighborhood associations, including the Belle Isle Residents Association, the Venetian Islands Homeowner Association and the Venetian Islands Neighborhood Alliance.

It starts at 7 p.m. at the Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Rd, and its scheduled to run to 9:30 p.m. It promises to be a good opportunity to hear the candidates for yourself, unfiltered, and reach your own conclusions.

And there’s an open (cash) bar from 7-8 p.m. Judging from what we’re seeing in the mailbox, that’s a great idea.

  1. Open bar? Now that’s an idea that needs to be brought to every precinct on election day.
