We may have some traffic challenges this weekend, starting Friday afternoon.
But heck, Belle Isle and Venetian Causeway homeowners slogged through the traffic slowdowns from South Beach Wine and Food and the boat shows, so surely we can survive a little more time trapped in the car.
Here’s what’s happening:
— President Obama arrives in Miami after noon on Friday. He’ll be visiting Central High School in Northwest Miami, and then two fund raisers on Miami Beach — at the Fontainebleau and Chris Korge’s home on Pine Tree Drive. Traffic will be stopped on Interstate 95 for the presidential motorcade to Central in the afternoon, and then later to the Beach, across the Julia Tuttle Causeway. The city of Miami Beach says there will be intermittent road closures north of 41st Street on Pine Tree and Collins Avenue for the fund raisers. They recommend Alton Road as an alternate.
— Sunday morning, a half marathon will cause road closures between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. The race starts on Ocean Drive at 6:13 a.m., and the route includes Ocean Drive, parts of Collins Avenue, Dade Boulevard and an up-and-back crossing of the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Consider the Tuttle and approaches particularly challenging, and expect a little more early traffic on the Venetian Causeway as a result.
