Monday’s funeral and motorcade to honor the two Miami-Dade Police officers killed last week trying to arrest a murder suspect will bring a series of road closings to mainland Miami-Dade from the the American Airlines Arena to Miami Lakes.
Officers Amanda Haworth and Roger Castillo’s tragic deaths last Thursday will bring in mourning police officers from around the country. The memorial service at the arena starts at 11 a.m.
Police have advised that there will be rode closures, including on Interstate 95, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and then after the memorial for about two hours beginning at about 12:30 p.m. for the motorcade from the arena to Vista Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Red Road and Northwest 142nd Street. All northbound lanes, including the Sunpass express lanes, will be closed from Interstate 395 to Northwest 119th Street.
Venetian and MacArthur causeway drivers should expect access to downtown to be difficult all morning — especially around the arena as police cruisers stream into the area for the memorial. Once the motorcade begins at 12:30 p.m., it may be impassable well into the mid-afternoon.
