Another detour on the Belle Isle obstacle course

With Island Avenue blocked on the southeast at Venetian Way, it’s time to address another obstacle Belle Isle drivers have to maneuver around: the paver pothole at the crosswalk in front of Island Terrace.

While the east end of Island Avenue is closed, this crosswalk on the west end jars car alignments.

The paver crosswalk is part of the big park renovation project the city did two years ago, and the drainage problems being addressed in front of the Grand Venetian are another part of that project legacy.

The crosswalk in front of Island Terrace began caving in several months ago, and a city crew took one stab at fixing. Obviously, they didn’t do a very good job. Hit this thing are more than 5 mph and it can jar your teeth!

It’s been like this for months. What does it take to get this fixed?

  1. We Belle Islers will soon have no way out. When the sink hole under our crosswalk opens, we’ll all be trapped. (Or, heaven forbid, some of us will have to learn to walk again.)
