A glimpse at Belle Isle in the 1950s — and some historical mystery

Postcard shows Venetian Isle Motel at 20 Venetian Way.

We have another blast from the past in our Belle Isle postcard history tour.

This one, captured on eBay, comes with a touch of mystery. It shows the Venetian Isle Motel, and looks very 50s. The back carries an address of 20 Venetian Way, and notes a location “minutes away from Lincoln Road.”

The mystery? Today, there is no such address as 20 Venetian Way, as you can see on our Belle Isle map. The Grand Venetian is at 10 Venetian Way. Adjacent, Belle Plaza, built in 1962, is 20 Island Ave.  Across the causeway, the Belle Isle Key Apartments carries the address 31 Venetian Way. The Standard, formerly the DiLido, is 40 Island Ave. Update!

So, Miami Beach history buffs, help us pinpoint the postcard. Where exactly was it. And what more do you know about it?

The back of the card reveals a "K" for kosher, and hints about location and amenities.
