Should the view from our islands look like Times Square?

Rendering of media towers near Arsht Center

Architecture critic Beth Dunlop examines the proposed digital billboard towers in today’s The Miami Herald, and if you live on Belle Isle or the Venetian Causeway and you doubted this project warranted your interest, you ought to give it a read.

It’s no exaggeration to say this development, on property adjacent to the Arsht Center on the Miami mainland between the Venetian and MacArthur causeways, will be highly visible to Venetian Island residents.

The digital billboards “might (or might not, depending on whose analysis one reads) spew out light greater than four full moons shining at once and might (or might not, again depending on the analyst) feature an ever-changing array of garish advertising.”

The final vote by the city of Miami seems more than likely, and it’s scheduled for Thursday.
