Update — on new Belle Isle apartment complex

Rendering of the proposed apartment complex.

The proposed apartment complex at 31 Venetian Way features a view corridor to Biscayne Bay.

Architectural drawings for the new apartment complex planned for the northeast corner of Belle Isle show a modern, five-story building with a “view corridor” in the middle to northern Biscayne Bay. The proposed complex, which would replace Belle Isle Key Apartments, would include 179 apartments topped with a rooftop tennis deck.

The plans will be presented to the Belle Isle Residents Association on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Belle Plaza, 20 Island Ave. The meeting is open to the public.

Will there be a public walk along the bay for all or part of the property perimeter?

Could a strip of land along the north side of Venetian Way be claimed during the review process to allow widening of the bridge at some future time? (Wider sidewalks on the bridge would be great in general, but as the building capacity is greater, there will be more people trying to pass on those narrow bridge walkways.)

    • Their plans do show a public walkway along the bay. We haven’t heard anything about widening the bridge — that opens all kinds of other issues, because of its historic designation, etc…
